Essen, January 26th, 2024. It is with great pride and honour that SPIEL Essen announces that the next European leg of the world’s greatest miniature painting competition – the Golden Demon – will be held at the world’s largest public fair for boardgames, at SPIEL Essen. Painters from all over the world will be able to enter their painted Warhammer miniatures in this long-standing competition and compete for the title in various categories. The competition as well as the award ceremony will be held at the fair from October 3rd to October 6th, 2024, in Essen, Germany.
In collaboration with Games Workshop, the organizer of the tradition rich painting competition, SPIEL Essen will have a dedicated area highlighting the works of the talented painters. With this addition of this prestigious award the already strong miniature and painting part at the games show becomes even more interesting for fans. “We are delighted that the Golden Demon will have its European leg at SPIEL this year”, says Carol Rapp, Managing Director of the show. “It is amazing what the painters achieve, and we are all looking forward to the great entries into the competition. For SPIEL this award is an amazing addition, as it fits perfectly into our growing fanbase for miniatures and allows European painters to enter their artworks more easily.”
The Golden Demon is a miniature painting competition that has started 1987 in the UK and is organized by Games Workshop, the creators of Warhammer. Painters can enter their painted miniatures in different categories and compete against each other. A jury of experts decides on the winners of each category who will have the honour of hosting the legendary Slayer Sword.
